Scam help for seniors in Omaha

Scammers are good at sounding real. I'll show you the warning signs, set up your phone to block more of them, and help you clean up if something already went wrong.

What I can help with

  • Learn the warning signs of scam calls, texts and emails
  • Turn on call screening and spam filters
  • Block numbers and report junk texts
  • Check for apps or remote-control software a scammer asked you to install
  • Change passwords on accounts you think were exposed
  • Make a simple 'what to do' card for by the phone

If you think you’ve just been scammed

  1. Call your bank first, using the number on the back of your card.
  2. Don’t send any more money, gift cards or codes.
  3. Call me. I can come over to change passwords and check your devices. I won’t touch your bank accounts, but I’ll sit with you while you call the bank yourself.

You can also report it at ReportFraud.ftc.gov and to the Nebraska Attorney General at protectthegoodlife.nebraska.gov.

Questions

Can you get my money back?

No. Only your bank or card company can try to do that, so call them first. I help with the tech side: passwords, settings and unwanted apps.

A pop-up says my computer has a virus. Should I call the number?

No. Close the browser or restart the computer. Real warnings never ask you to call someone. If it keeps coming back, call me.

Can you give a scam talk at our senior center or church?

Yes. Call me and we'll find a time.
